People Drugs - Not For Pets!
Many people consider their pets as part of the family. They love and respect them as if they were human. A close relationship with your pet can be a rewarding experience; but it is imperative that you never forget that your pet is an animal no matter how much a part of the family it seems.
Many of the harmless remedies that people take are extremely toxic to your pet. Never give your pet any medication without first consulting our office, no matter how inconsequential it may seem. Here are a few rules for every pet owner:
- Human pain relievers such as Tylenol and aspirin are toxic and could kill a cat or dog even in very small doses. Do not give any medication to your pet even if it seems to be "under the weather" or "in pain". Call our office first!
- Do not give your pet any medications meant for another animal without first consulting us and understanding the amount and frequency of dosage.
- If your pet gets into human medicines,¬treat it as a poisoning. This means consulting our office immediately.
- Don't trust anyone but a qualified veterinarian (this includes an MD, nurse or otherwise) for advice on how to treat or medicate your pet.
We all love our four-legged friends. It is often very difficult for us to stand idly by when it seems like they are in pain or sick. Don't take chances and make a mistake you may regret for a long time. Call us!
